Summary:

Senior accountant responsibilities include leading the monthly close process, reconciling account balances, lead monthly balance sheet reconciliation process, maintaining general ledger, and revenue / profitability reporting. A successful Senior accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts and is able provide accounting expertise to other team members. Senior accountant duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all areas of our accounting tasks.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• BA/BS degree in Accounting with minimum 1 – 3 years of experience
• Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Advertising agency or service industry experience preferred, not required
• Experience in analyzing and has an awareness of business trends
• Experience in preparing and/or analyzing financial accounting statements
• Experience with balance sheet reconciliations
• Hands-on experience with ERP, accounting software packages
• Advanced MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
• Customer service orientation and negotiation skills

Responsibilities:

• Manage the monthly financial close process, lead staff in completing close checklist
• Manage balance sheet reconciliation process
• Maintaining the General Ledger including account setup
• Prepare financial statements and assist in producing budgets according to schedule
• Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
• Internal financial reporting with focus on revenue and profitability including analysis of financial data and summarize financial status
• Performing financial analysis and producing financial insights as assigned
• Assist Director of Accounting with internal and external audits including post-audit reconciliations, and to ensure compliance
• Assist Director of Accounting with tax audits and tax returns including making tax payments as scheduled and maintaining a tax payment schedule
• Assist Director of Accounting to monitor industry/regulatory changes with respect to revenue recognition and develop new processes and policies to accommodate accordingly and present to CFO with recommendations.
• Review client agreements along with the Media Accountant to help identify accounting issues and to monitor compliance with the company’s revenue recognition policies
• Prepare weekly preliminary and final client reconciliations including client direct costs and agency revenue. This includes working closely with the Media Accountant during the reconciliation process.
• Forward monthly client reconciliations to Director of Accounting for review prior to distribution to Account Management teams
• Work directly with internal and external clients, assisting with educating, monitoring and managing their financial accounts
• On-going update of Accounting workbooks and review with Account Management teams on a monthly- basis
• Account Management liaison for the Accounting and Finance Department
• Enter cash receipts and prepare daily deposits and deposit payments into company bank accounts using remote capture capability
• Prepare weekly cash report
• Update detailed monthly revenue reporting per client, client state and service
• Maintain Job Cost system in accounting system
• Open job/project numbers in accounting system Job Cost maintenance and provide monthly open jobs listings
• Monitor the overhead/cost allocation and burden rate, and adjust as needed
• Research and implement an automatic allocation of the overhead cost and burden to job/projects using the accounting system
• Calculate the monthly work-in-process or % complete adjustment for all jobs/projects
• Close jobs/projects in the accounting system as needed
• Serves as a coach and mentor for accounting staff members
• Provide guidance on technical and management accounting issues to team while ensuring GAAP compliance
• Monitors and analyzes accounting processes and related work to develop more efficient procedures and use resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
• Assist Director of Accounting in the development and documentation of business processes and accounting policies to help maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Provides backup and overflow support for other General and Media Accounting staff responsibilities
• Supports CFO and Director of Accounting with special projects and workflow process improvements
